Join the pilgrims on the Kailash Mansarovar yatra / pilgrimage, a very sacred pilgrimage for bioth Hindu and Buddhist / Buddist devotees. Kailash, dust being raised by vehicles, colorful Buddist prayer flags / Tibetan prayer flags beside Lake Mansarovar.

South of Mount Kailash are Rakastal / Rakshastal at 4515 meters altitude, Mansarovar at 4530 meters altitude, and further south the peaks of Gurla Mandhata at 7683 meters. Tibetan antelope / Chiru from whose underbelly, the infamous shahtoosh shawls made out of Lake Mansarovar. The lake freezes in the winters and melts only in spring. Mapam Tso, the Tibetan name of Mansarovar, means perpetually invincible, is one of the highest fresh water lakes in the world and covers 412 square kilometers / 159 square miles and is at an altitude of 4588 meters / 15049 feet. Lake Manasarowar is relatively round in shape and has some Buddhist monasteries on its shores.
